Current extension requirements

    What to check

    • Check the earliest and latest application timing on the current agency page.
    • Confirm that employment terms were met throughout the existing permit period.
    • Collect salary and insurance evidence covering the full required period.
    • Check whether the 1 June–1 December 2026 transitional salary rule applies.
    • Confirm that the continued job and contract meet the current requirements.

The agency reviews the period you already worked

An extension is not based only on the new contract. Migrationsverket states that salary, insurance and other terms must have been met during the existing permit period. Missing coverage or incorrect terms can therefore matter later.

    2026 transitional salary rule

The agency describes a six-month transition for certain permits granted under the previous rules when the extension is submitted from 1 June through 1 December 2026. From 2 December 2026, the new salary requirement applies to all extension applications according to the current page.

Keep one evidence file during the employment

    • Signed contracts and amendments
    • Monthly salary statements and relevant payment evidence
    • Insurance certificates showing start and coverage periods
    • Permit decisions and submitted application receipts

    Common questions

No. The agency also checks whether the required terms were met during the existing permit period.

Does the transitional rule apply to every extension?

No. It depends on when the current permit was granted and when the extension is submitted.
